This course has been identified as a ‘skills shortage area’ by the Queensland Government. Due to the rapid growth of the community services sector, an increasing number of roles are becoming available and qualified workers are in demand. The community services sector assists and supports individuals, families and communities in need, contributing to their wellbeing and quality of life through social, residential, family and disability support.

Course Details

  • Prerequisites: There are no formal entry requirements
  • Duration: 6 -12 months
  • Theory: 18 units in total (11 Core units and 7 Elective units)
  • Delivery: Online with ongoing support from your Trainer/Assessor
  • Assessments: Written assessments and practical assessments, no essays or exams
  • Extra Support: Lecture recordings and extra resources available for each unit
  • Practical: 100 hours of Vocational Placement required. This can be completed with your current employer, or at a Community Services Organisation of your choice (Role should include assistance with case manager responsibilities)
  • Next Intake: Course runs on a rolling intake, you can begin at any time

establish your eligibility for funding. There are a number of types of funding available, listed below:

  • $190 (High Level Skills Funding)
  • $100 concessional (High Level Skills Funding, Back to Work)
  • Full fee: $3,600 or $3,150 (concessional)

Are You Eligible For Government Funding?

Applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  1. Queensland resident
  2. 15 years or older
  3. Not enrolled in school (excluding School students completing VET)
  4. Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants) OR a temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency
  5. Not enrolled in/has not completed Certificate IV level and/or higher qualification.

(This does not include qualifications completed at school and/or foundations skills training)

If you already hold a Certificate IV or above, you may still be eligible to access Back to Work funding as it is available for students that have already completed qualifications in Australia (certain criteria applies).

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
It is recommended that you:

  • Have sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy skills
  • Have access to a computer
  • Have basic computing skills
  • Be able to obtain a Blue Card
  • Be at least 15 years of age

Recommended Course Requirements

You will require basic English and computer skills to undertake computer/online work and have access to a computer and internet. Please be aware that job roles in the community services sector may require manual handling tasks and may require vaccination evidence.
